Americans across the United States celebrated their national holiday on Saturday, commemorating the 233 years since the Declaration of Independence with barbecues, live music and lots of fireworks. Russia was Saturday preparing to welcome Barack Obama for the first time as US president, heartened by his description of the country as an equal but also stunned by criticism of Vladimir Putin.
